Resolution

This year, on January 1st, I made a resolution to myself. I didn’t tell anyone that I was doing this. My resolution was to go outside my comfort zone.

Boy, have I ever.

This year I’ve become more involved in my church. I found my hands typing a reply in late May to someone looking for a co-leader for a group study. My head was saying no, but, my hands were typing “I’ll help if you’ll have me!” That changed so many things.

The class was S.H.A.P.E.

SHAPE stands for Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experience. It’s a six week long class. The first week is just to get to know everyone and then the next five weeks go through each letter. If you ever get to do this group study, take it. It will teach you so much about yourself.

During this class I found myself taking a test for my gifts. I have strong FAITH, which I already knew, but it was good to see it in print.

S.H.A.P.E. helped me take the plunge. I found myself texting the leader of Vacation Bible School at my church, to help out with VBS by taking photos. I seriously just picked up my phone while she was speaking, in a meeting, about needing a volunteer. I took photos of the kids doing activities and singing all week. It was nice to do that again. I think it really sparked something in my soul. I remember taking photos of the kids as they accepted Christ also. It was amazing.

S.H.A.P.E. helped me take the plunge. I’ve wanted to volunteer for the Catherine Foundation, I’ve taken the brochure home three or four times, never contacted anyone. I finally contacted my friend that is the head of the organization and she put me in touch with the volunteer coordinator. This is a great organization that helps educate single mothers and also helps with diapers and clothing for the baby. I had to go through a few weeks of waiting while they checked out my references, etc. I’ve been helping where needed. I just started helping sort the baby things and making layettes. I really like organizing so that brings me joy while helping out. I like the people that volunteer and work there, everyone has been really nice. It makes my heart happy and my spirit is joyful! I also helped hand out brochures and answer questions at an event. That was WAY out of my comfort zone, but, I did it!

If you want to volunteer near you, do it. I promise that you will have a happy spirit and you will expand your FAITH and your life will be better because of it. If you would like to donate to the organization that I volunteer for, you can click this link and read all about it.

S.H.A.P.E. helped me take the plunge. I volunteer at Lifepoint now, helping to greet people for a service on Sunday mornings. This is also way out of my comfort zone. I started doing that a few months ago. I am not always comfortable with a lot of people around, so I help out by serving at the earliest service, so it’s not super crowded.

So far it’s been an amazing year. I’ve put myself in many different situations that I normally wouldn’t have experienced.

I joined a gym again. I found myself running more and more and I needed to counterbalance that with actual strength training. So, at least once a week I go to the gym and work on the weights. I want to try spin, yoga, kick boxing as well as Krav Maga, which my gym offers for classes. I find that I don’t always talk to people at the gym, but, at least I’m there with other people. I’m putting myself out there. Going out of my comfort zone.

I went on a field trip with my granddaughter. That was the first field trip I’ve been on since my girls were in school, so quite a while ago! It was fun, we went to the US Military Academy and Annapolis. I’d like to go back and see more of the area.

I’m praying more. I really am. I sit and read the Bible for about 10 minutes every morning. I always pray before I travel and before my husband travels to and from work. I find that my spirit is very happy and buoyant after church. I am more in touch with my spirit this year than I have been in a long, long time.

From my Facebook post on January 1, 2017: Wow, hard to believe it’s been 5 years. Wow. I feel that my faith in God has been tested so much, especially since mid-2015. I have found roadblocks where they shouldn’t be. I just keep the faith and know that God has it covered. 2017 will be a great year for me, I can feel it.

The 5 years mentioned above is how long it’s been since I was baptized. In 2015 I was in a car accident. Roadblocks are always around me, I just keep the FAITH and things work out the way they are supposed to work out.

That was my year of changes. Next year will have more changes, but, with God on my side, I’m ready. Bring it on.

Spinach and Berry Smoothie Recipe

I make this in my Vitamix. I usually drink at least once a week.

1 tsp. ground oatmeal
1 tsp. flax seed
2 heaping tsp. Vegan protein powder
3-4 tsp. flavored yogurt. Right now I’m using strawberry yogurt. It’s Greek.
2 handfuls of baby spinach

Fresh berries if you can find them!

I have used frozen berries in the past. I buy the bags at Target, they are less expensive than the grocery store and last twice as long.

Fill it up with OJ and make it a smoothie!

I’ll drink this when I feel a little run down and it helps me out. I also drink this before a run or when I get home from the gym.

Back to running

I realized the other day that I haven’t posted here in a long time. So, here’s what has been going on with my running.

I took a TWO year break as I was having issues with my IT bands and I sought out a PT for this. I noticed that I was sitting with my legs tucked underneath me when I would sit down. Once I changed this strategy, I had no more issues with my IT bands. I had pain just walking and sometimes when I was trying to sleep at night my legs would throb and hurt.

Looking back on my running history, I can see where I started to walk and run more often now that I didn’t have any pain in my legs at all.

I’ve gotten past doing intervals and I’m currently running about 3-4 miles at a time. I run the entire thing. I’ve been slowing down as I run if I feel I need to. Just running the entire thing is a huge accomplishment to me. I’ve been pushing my body to see how far I can go without stopping.

I started with just 2 miles on the rail trail. Then I decided to do three, but I ended up doing a 5K. The rail trail here is split up on one end by a 2 mile increment. I knew that my body could do the 4 miles, I just had to wrap my brain around that. I accomplished this for the first time on October 2, 2017! I did stop here and there, but, I did it! I did it again on November 4, 2017, this time without stopping. I have done mostly 2 and 3 mile runs lately. I think I’m due for another 4 mile run, or even beyond, soon!

I’ve signed up to do a Santa Fun Run on December 9, 2017. This will be the first time I’ve run in December. It’s a 5K on a farm and I’ve heard it’s a nice run with pretty scenery.

I’ve signed up to do my first 8K on April 29, 2018! This is the Inaugural National Women’s Half and 8K run! I’m so stoked!

I’m seriously considering entering the MCM 10K next Fall. The registration opens in mid-April, 2018, so I’m going to see how I feel at that moment and think about it after my first 8K, then decide.

Daith Piercing Update – 1 year later

I cannot believe it’s been a year since I had my daith’s pierced.

I have had a few instances of headaches, but, not migraines. I believe these were allergy related and sometimes from being tired.

Everything is all healed and most days I don’t even know they are there.

I recently visited my piercer to show him how great they look and to give him an update. He’s so happy that it worked for me.

I know it doesn’t work for everyone, I’m very, very grateful that it works for me.

After 27 years of having a migraine that put me in bed, dark room, nausea, depressing thoughts, 3-4 times a week, it’s finally over. I lost entire chunks of my life to migraine’s.

It all started when I had my tubal a year after my last child was born. Then, something happened in my body and I would get a migraine. I would, I had to, work through it when my kids were little. I didn’t have anyone else there. Just me when my husband was deployed.

No doctor could help. I was given many different prescriptions to try. They all failed.

This piercing changed my life. My daughter has had the same results as well. Read through all of the posts within the category piercing here and you can see how it changed my life.
