Spinach and Berry Smoothie Recipe

I make this in my Vitamix. I usually drink at least once a week.

1 tsp. ground oatmeal
1 tsp. flax seed
2 heaping tsp. Vegan protein powder
3-4 tsp. flavored yogurt. Right now I’m using strawberry yogurt. It’s Greek.
2 handfuls of baby spinach

Fresh berries if you can find them!

I have used frozen berries in the past. I buy the bags at Target, they are less expensive than the grocery store and last twice as long.

Fill it up with OJ and make it a smoothie!

I’ll drink this when I feel a little run down and it helps me out. I also drink this before a run or when I get home from the gym.

Back to running

I realized the other day that I haven’t posted here in a long time. So, here’s what has been going on with my running.

I took a TWO year break as I was having issues with my IT bands and I sought out a PT for this. I noticed that I was sitting with my legs tucked underneath me when I would sit down. Once I changed this strategy, I had no more issues with my IT bands. I had pain just walking and sometimes when I was trying to sleep at night my legs would throb and hurt.

Looking back on my running history, I can see where I started to walk and run more often now that I didn’t have any pain in my legs at all.

I’ve gotten past doing intervals and I’m currently running about 3-4 miles at a time. I run the entire thing. I’ve been slowing down as I run if I feel I need to. Just running the entire thing is a huge accomplishment to me. I’ve been pushing my body to see how far I can go without stopping.

I started with just 2 miles on the rail trail. Then I decided to do three, but I ended up doing a 5K. The rail trail here is split up on one end by a 2 mile increment. I knew that my body could do the 4 miles, I just had to wrap my brain around that. I accomplished this for the first time on October 2, 2017! I did stop here and there, but, I did it! I did it again on November 4, 2017, this time without stopping. I have done mostly 2 and 3 mile runs lately. I think I’m due for another 4 mile run, or even beyond, soon!

I’ve signed up to do a Santa Fun Run on December 9, 2017. This will be the first time I’ve run in December. It’s a 5K on a farm and I’ve heard it’s a nice run with pretty scenery.

I’ve signed up to do my first 8K on April 29, 2018! This is the Inaugural National Women’s Half and 8K run! I’m so stoked!

I’m seriously considering entering the MCM 10K next Fall. The registration opens in mid-April, 2018, so I’m going to see how I feel at that moment and think about it after my first 8K, then decide.

Daith Update!

It’s been 70 days since I had my right daith piercing and 23 days since my left side was pierced.

I’ve had a very slight headache here and there, but, nothing that counts as a migraine or even a tension headache.

We went on a road trip, drove 9+ hours each way.

No issues on the trip at all.

I’m still cleaning both piercings twice a day…and my tragus piercing too.

At the end of the summer I plan on getting my right tragus and my right daith earrings changed to something other than a ring. I’m starting to look around for different ideas.

This has changed my life so much. If you haven’t had any relief from migraines and you want to try it, I would. It does hurt for a minute, but, nothing like child birth, labor pains, tattoos. It’s painful, then it’s gone.

Check out this previous post for the info for cleaning. I created my own solution after using this solution and it seems to be working perfectly.

Cleaning supplies and information.

Another daith piercing update!

I have had my second piercing almost a week and my right ear piercing for just over a month now.

One of my major triggers for migraines has always been the heat. I could never go outside in the middle of the summer for any length of time. I would be okay for about 15 minutes, then, I would start getting a headache and it would turn into a migraine.

Well, that’s changed! I went to a garden dinner on Friday night. I was outside continually for over 2 hours. I did go inside briefly to get water or more food, but, I was definitely outside for more than a 15 minute stretch.

I came home and then I realized that I didn’t have any sort of headache. Not even a slight one.

Wow, this is a life changer for me. I have always wanted to go on a missions trip, but I couldn’t because of headaches and migraines from the heat.

I also ate garlic on Saturday with  no issues, not even a slight headache.

I’ve been working out on my elliptical over the past week or so, it’s been a while since I’ve used it here at home. I have had no issues with headaches at all. So this will change how I distance run and exercise greatly!

So amazing!!

Daith Piercing Follow Up Post #7

Today I had my left daith pierced!

In the 46 days since I had my right daith pierced, I have experienced no migraines. I have eaten both of my trigger foods, with no headache of any sort!

I have had three or four headaches from being tired, I took one or two Tylenol and when it went away, I was extremely tired. So the migraine is still there, I just don’t feel it full force.

I hope getting my left daith pierced will take away all headaches. We shall see!

I do want to post that on June 30th I had my heart earring replaced with a circle earring. The top of the heart had twisted around and was stuck in my piercing. I have a captive bead earring now, much easier to clean and turn. I believe that the heart did that because it was healed and it was freely moving. I noticed that it was moving a lot in the evening, I wasn’t even touching the earring. It is much better with a captive bead for the weight. Please make sure if you get a heart, there’s a bead put on the end. It was VERY painful to have it caught in my ear piercing and I couldn’t move it at all. I tried everything. I waited until the shop opened and then I called and he told me to come down there and he fixed it for me. Much better now!
